I loved my old Roomba, but the s9+ blows it away! This robot is really amazing! We bought a Roomba years ago and loved it, but it was time to be replaced. The s9+ fixes everything we didn’t like about the old one. First, the square shape allows it to clean better in corners. Second, the self-emptying dirt tray is way, way easier to manage and keeps hands clean. Third, the quiet mode allows us to sleep at night. Fourth, the app makes it easy to schedule a cleaning so it will run while we’re away. It cleans up everything, even big things like chips or cereal. It doesn’t bother the dog at all and my kids love it too! The old Roomba cleaned randomly, but this one makes an effort to clean in straight lines which makes the carpet look neater. The only things it can’t do is move furniture or go up and down stairs. This means we have to make sure the furniture is out of the way and move the unit from time to time. Small issues in an overall great experience. A fantastic product, well worth the money! Thank you iRobot! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I have an emotional connection to Roomba. I love it! Dusty Bottoms is our new robot pet. My wife and I have made a quick emotional bond with him. Our cat, Ramen, is still taking some time, but we will get there. I love having the floors clean ALL OF THE TIME! I love that Dusty Bottoms can skip certain rooms and can do double passes on others. Love. LOVE!

Definitely recommend – with caveats. Having owned 5 Roombas, to include the first made back in 2002, the S9+ is an amazing machine with a totally different physical profile than the round Roomba’s we are accustomed to using. There are many very positive things about this Roomba…and a few problem areas. The good: • It cleans much better than my previous Roomba 980. For example, I have an automatic cat box that uses plastic granules, and these get strewn everywhere. The 980 did a good job…the S9+ does an excellent job getting these up. • The redesigned corner brush tends to pick up items vice tossing across the room. • The redesigned exhaust also minimizes the amount of dirt the S9+ blows around inadvertently. • The “D” design of the chassis allows the S9+ to fit much more naturally into corners. • Since S9+ retains the map of your house in memory, you can designate rooms and then clean just those rooms. This is a great feature to “spot” clean just 1 room. • The vacuum suction is much improved…it really sucks everything up it can reach. • The automatic dust bin emptying tower – WOW! Worth the money! • Overall vacuum noise – much reduced from the 980. However, it does make a new noise. The bad: • With lower profile and front brushes, appears to have difficulty with area rugs of any height. It gets onto low height rugs with some difficulty but has real issues with the fringe on end of rugs. Others of greater height get pushed around or treated as an object to get around. Also, power cords can give it difficulty. However, it gets over transitions between rooms with no issues. • Based on my experience the S9+ truly seems to rely upon the map it builds as it “learns” your house. Without it, it did not clean my house very well out of the box. It took about a day and 4 training runs to get the map to 100%. Since then it is working great. • Probably from the lower profile, you hear more brush interaction with the floor and “crunching” noises. It doesn’t damage the hard wood floors that I

I am thus far overall satisfied with my purchase. The robot literally will get stuck every time on my 1 inch shaggy carpet – so we ended up get a normal half inch thick carpet for that area (in the family room). The first floor where it primarily vacuums it does a very good job, so much so that we did not need to vacuum all week… and my household consists of 3 young children and a 100lb mastiff! The automatic disposal (the plus feature) is very useful as we don’t have to worry about constantly emptying the vacuums debris. No buyers remorse here! And for what it’s worth we also got the paired mop – which does a “good enough” job… love having clean floors with minimal effort! I am looking forward to the Keep Out Zones – which would have been useful with my shaggy rug problem. I took a star away because of iRobots failure to mention that it will not work on thick/shaggy carpet.

Needs an Update. I have the iRobot 980 and was looking forward to getting the S9+ as an upgrade to my current unit. This turned out to be a downgrade in my opinion. The S9+ RARELY makes it back to its base at the end of a cleaning cycle. My home floor plan is very simple and I always move obstacles that I think the Roomba will have trouble with but the S9 constantly gets stuck on nothing and i’m having to carry it back to base 8/10 times. My Roomba 980 never gets stuck and always makes it back to base. The S9 seems to be a much more powerful vacuum however and when it does make it through a cleaning cycle my floors look and feel amazing, especially the carpets!

Minimal Improvement over Predecessor. After two months of ownership I can definitely say I wish I had used the 30 day return policy. The brushes for this unit degrade very quickly and have poor quality control. The first set of brushes were extremely noisy, unfortunately tech support was unable to hear the noise due to the noise cancelling microphone in my phone. It was far louder than any other Roomba I’ve owned and was caused by the poor brush bearings which allowed the brushes to rattle. The brush material tore very quickly just on carpet/tile flooring. After purchasing a replacement set the noise went away and the unit was about the same volume as the i7 series (almost silent), much quieter than the 900 series. Suction power with this unit is amazing, but once the brushes tear the robot becomes a cat coaster (ie. useless). Other than the brushes the hardware seems solid. The wider rollers make vacuuming faster than old models. I expected great things from the new navigation system, but was sorely disappointed. The unit gets lost just like it’s predecessors for seemingly no reason. Despite being in the same room as the home base when pressing the Home button the unit only reaches parking position ~20% of the time. I ran the mapping runs several times and the robot consistently failed to locate all of my rooms. It failed to find a different room each time! Even with a full map the unit fails to complete it’s job ~75% of the time which means you’ll need to carry it back to base when you get home. We pay premium prices for iRobot technology, but this model doesn’t justify the additional cost as it brings nothing new to the game.

Unfortunately this his disappointment. This is my third Roomba. Unfortunately this model is a disappointment. I don’t see any any improvement or benefit as compared to previous models.. It gets stuck every single time in the same location. In addition this damage/ scrape the legs of the office chair. It is loud and harsh on rugs. It was a bad investment. I don’t think this model will survive without major redesign.

Unit worked great at first. Unit worked great at first. After a couple of weeks, it started having an error “bumper stuck”. It would also get stuck trying to leave the dock, as well as not return home at all. We would have to pick it up every time, and put it back on charge. I did everything the techs said, and they finally determined it was defective. I sent it back, and am waiting on a new unit. I hope that the new unit performs as described. I have all tile floors, and it cleans great.

The jury is still out! We had high hope for this Roomba. Unfortunately, the hype appears larger than the results/actions of this product. s9 series has software and hardware issues. The first Roomba had to be exchanged for hardware issue with the lid. The replacement was not communicating very well with the base, and now we are having to exchange the base due to a software glitch. Sigh…. Everyone we speak with are ready to help and want to resolve the issues, yet they cannot help with faulty product. Only exchange. We’re being calm, but also ready to request a refund if this second exchange does not work.

Worst Robot Yet. I have had and currently own 2 robots. My i7+ Is amazing. Works flawlessly. This on the other hand is terrible. It’s their newest product and it definitely shows. They have replaced my brand new robot twice and all of them have the same issue or more. Right out of the box software bugs and error messages. Frustrating. I love iRobot but will exchange this item for the i7+. This one isn’t ready for prime time!
